POINT GUARD CAMP
July 22nd - 24th, 2009
3 Days/2 Nights - Wednesday 2PM thru Friday noon
Who should attend? Boys entering 8th grade through freshman in college in the fall of 2009 who want to increase their point guard skills and be exposed to the most sophisticated mental and physical aspects of the position. This event will be a combination seminar/camp. It calls for mature young men who have the ability to absorb a great deal of information in the classroom as well as on the gym floor. Our target student/athlete is a leader with a solid GPA who is also basketball smart. Scott Olson is our Point Guard coach. He is currently the Head Coach at La Salle-Peru High School in LaSalle, Illinois. Scott has been a high school coach for almost 20 years and has also coached at Orion, East Moline and Danville. He was won four district coach of the year titles. |
This camp is not just for point guards. It is for any position player who wants to learn and understand the demanding mental requirements of the point position and the skills needed to effectively play as a point guard.
Time will be spent in the air-conditioned Illinois Wesleyan players classroom. It has state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment and offers an ideal learning environment.
POINT GUARD STUDENTS WILL JOIN OUR PERIMETER PLAYERS AND BIG MAN CAMP PLAYERS FOR ON-COURT TRAINING AND GAMES
Topics to be covered include:
Mental Aspects:
- Running the Offense and Defense
- Making teammates better players
- Communicating with teammates
- Acting as the team leader on and off the court
- Thinking like your coach
- Being like a coach on the floor
- Motivating your teammates
- Always being aware of the score, time remaining, who's hot, who's not, etc.
- Making sure teammates are fulfilling their roles
- Reading opponent's offenses and defenses
Physical Aspects:
- Ball handling
- Penetration
- Dishing off and kicking out
- Controlling tempo
- Ball movement
- Setting up spacing
- Fast breaks

FOR GUARDS / FORWARDS

Who should attend? Boys entering 6th grade or freshman in college in the fall of 2009 are eligible to attend. Steve Bennett, head coach at New Castle (Indiana) High School and former assistant coach at the University of Evansville, will direct the Perimeter Players Camp. His 2005-2006 New Castle Trojans were Class 3A Indiana State Champions. His 2006-2007 record was 22-3.

PERIMETER PLAYERS WILL BE COMBINED WITH BIG MAN AND POINT GUARD PLAYERS FOR GAMES AND CERTAIN DRILLS.
Skills and topics to be covered include:
- Advanced ball handling skills
- Becoming a great shooter, not just a good one
- Moving without the ball
- Advanced passing skills
- Putting each teammate in a position to succeed
- On/Off the ball defensive techniques
- Special point guard leadership training
- Train guards how to play on the wings, wings how to play guard, and both how to post up
- Advanced offensive skills
- 5-on-5 games

3 Days/2 Nights - Wednesday 2PM thru Friday noon
Who should attend? Boys entering 6th grade thru freshman in college in the fall of 2009 are eligible to attend. Coach Ken Crawford has compiled a 612-150 (80%) record as head coach at Teutopolis (ILL) High School. His teams won the class A State Championship in 1986, came in second in 2003, and made six "Elite 8" appearances during his 25 years as coach. His 2006-2007 record was 32-3 and they reached the Class A Final Four.

- Becoming a scorer-not just a player
- Offensive positioning and pass receiving
- Face-up and drop-step power moves
- Low and high post shooting
- Shooting from the wing

- Post screening fundamentals

- Train big men to run the floor, shoot 3's, rebound, and play either post or wing
- Learn how to become the dominant force on the inside

POSITION PLAYERS
July 24th - 26th, 2009
3 Days/2 Nights - Friday 2PM thru Sunday noon
Who should attend? Boys entering 6th grade thru freshman in college in the fall of 2009 are eligible to attend. Dave Weber, coach at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL, will serve as head coach. He was an assistant coach at Arizona State and Eastern Illinois prior to becoming head coach at Glenbrook North in 1994 where he has a 229-107 record. His 2004-2005 team won the Illinois Class AA State Championship led by Duke guard Jon Scheyer. His brother, Bruce, is the head coach at the University of Illinois.

JUNIOR ALL-STARS
FOR ADVANCED YOUNGER PLAYERS
July 26th - 28th, 2009
3 Days/2 Nights - Sunday 2PM thru Tuesday noon
Who should attend? Boys entering 6th - 8th in the fall of 2009 who have shown that they are among the more advanced players in their age group are eligible to attend. They want to move to a higher level and to share their camp experience with other players having similar ability. Overall, this makes for a more competitive camp.

For 2009, Marc Polite will serve as Head Coach for both our Basic Skills and Junior All-Stars Camps. He is currently the Head Coach at United TWP. High School in East Moline, Illinois. He was also top Assistant Coach at Gulf Coast University for four years where he coached post and wing players. Marc played at Eastern Illinois University and was captain and all conference for two years. He played high school hoops at United and was two time Illinois All-State Special Mention.
This camp is quite similar to the Prep All-Stars Camp for advanced high school players. In fact, their "Typical Daily Schedules" are identical. However, the actual content of each is different to reflect the different skill levels.

PREP ALL-STARS CAMP
FOR ADVANCED HIGH SCHOOLPLAYERS
July 26th - 29nd, 2009
4 Days/3 Nights-Sunday 2PM thru Wednesday noon
Who should attend the Prep All-Stars Camp? Players entering 9th grade thru freshman in college in the fall of 2009 who have already proven that they are good basketball players, but now are eager to refine their game even more. They also desire to play games against some of the best players in the Midwest.
They will be coached by Hall of Fame member, Gordie Kerkman, head coach of the West Aurora (IL) High School Blackhawks. The Blackhawks have won over 600 games during his 32 year career as head coach. West Aurora won the Illinois Class AA State Championship in 2000 and placed second in the state once and third four times during 10 "Elite 8" state final appearances.
Prep All-Stars is our premier camp and has received rave reviews from players, parents, coaches, and scouting services.
It is a must for players who have the potential to be starters at the high school varsity level as well as college prospects.
Here is a summary of the Prep All-Stars Camp:
- Extensive one-on-one training at Extra Help Stations and during individual workouts
- Train players on basic fundamentals for all other positions in addition to regular position
- Advanced training covering most fundamentals and many drills
- Developing the skills that high school and college coaches demand
- Learn how to play great defense
- Play 12-14 intense games against top-notch talent. Find out how you stack up
- 10 man teams, each player plays the same number of minutes
- How to become a super team player
- We permit college scouts to attend all Prep All-Star sessions
- All-Star game plus trophies for best shooters, rebounders, defensive players, ball handlers, team players, etc
- At the end of camp, you will receive a detailed 40 point Evaluation Form grading your skills plus a personalized set of drills you can practice at home
- All college coaches who attend will receive a roster listing all campers attending the Prep All-Stars Camp which shows: all camper contact info, high school coach's name and phone, GPA, ACT, E-Mail address, etc.
